Description

Untouched during 25 years...

Lac Thuro is an impressive 121 acre lake that is part of an even more impressive 9000 acre property. This lake hasn't been fished for 25 years, until Joël, the current bailiff, got the opportunity to test the lake. Stunned by the catches, he decided to convince the owner to open the venue for other carp anglers. This year 2011, will be the first year the lake will be open to the public and we are very excited about what's going to happen this season.

Situated at a 2,5 hour's drive south of Paris, close to Bourges, this old gravel pit has depths ranging between 1,5 and 4 meters. There are several plateaus and holes, but no major obstacles. The bottom has gravel with a layer of silt with lots of natural food for the carp. There is no poisson chat, but there is crayfish, so you might bring some hard baits or mesh up.

There is only one access to the lake and at night the lake is closed.

The Swims

This magnificent venue has no more than 15 swims, of which only 14 will be occupied per week. A maximum of 18 anglers are allowed on the lake. Swims 9+10 are single swims, all the others are doubles. All swims are very spacious and have good car access; the car can be parked next to the swim. In the southern part of the lake, there's a wild life reserve where fishing is not allowed.

The Stocking

Thuro has an unknown fish stock because it has never been emptied. The lake is open for carp anglers since late 2010 and there are hardly any catch reports. We do know that the carp has had 25 year to grow in an unspoiled and extremely rich environment. We also know that 35 55lbs+ carp (both mirrors and commons) in the lake, and the french grass carp record has also been set here at 70,55lbs. The biggest mirror to date was 60,85 lbs (27,6kg), and we are pretty sure this is not the biggest carp of the lake. Other species are pike and big bream.

The carp are still untrained in artificial feeding habits, so big boilies won't have much success for the moment. Particles, especially maize and tigernuts are bringing good results. Joel, the bailiff, says that small pop-up boilies (yellow or green e.g.) also work very well. Normally, he uses hemp for groud baiting.

Facilities and Service

A very clean sanitary building with toilets and shower is situated at the entrance. Here you can get good drinking water.
The bailiff visits the clients on a daily basis to pick up their batteries (from bait boats, mobile phones, etc). Once they're charged he brings them back to the swim.
You can use the on site barbecues. The bailiff has a small on-site tackle shop and offers bait boats for rent.
