Description
Overview
A few kilometres outside of Montier en Der (Champagne, Eastern France) lies Etang Les Salles. This unknown 42 acres (17 hectares) lake has never been fished before. There are reed-lined margins, overhanging trees and a breath taking tranquillity. We restocked this dream venue with 250 healthy commons and mirrors between 27lb and 57lb. Given the fact that we wanted a maximum number of big carp for a relatively low number of carp anglers, we only made 5 double swims. We’re curious to see what the 2012 season brings us at Les Salles…
The lake
Les Salles is a natural lake with a total area of 42 acres or 17 hectares. There are no more than 5 double swims distributed equally around the venue, allowing a maximum of 10 anglers per week. The margins feature reed lines, trees and shrubs. The wildlife is abundant. Birds of prey soar over the valley, deer, hares, and kingfishers are often seen. The deepest part of the lake is 6 to 7 ft shallowing to 2-3 Ft in the margins. The lake bed has silt patches and no snags. There’s no poisson chat, no crayfish and no weed formation.
The Fish Stocks
This winter 2012, we drained the lake and removed all the smaller fish. Then we restocked the lake with 250 healthy mirrors and commons between 27lb and 57lb. The biggest fish is a 57,32lb mirror, the biggest common weighs 50,71lb. The average weight is just over 14kg. You may also see silver fish, pike and catfish.
The Swims
Given the fact that we wanted a maximum number of big carp for a relatively low number of carp anglers, we only made 5 double swims.
Swim 1 lies at the shallow right side of the lake, interesting for early spring. On the left hand side there are some trees and on the right there are reed-lined margins. Here, you can fish on the far end of the lake and in the middle.
Trees surround swim 2. Good for fishing the far end near the reed lines and in the middle of the lake.
Swim 3 lies in the corner from where you can fish the reed lines on your left and on your right. This is a double swim but may also be booked by one single angler.
Swim 4 is a large swim near the dam. Here you’ll find the deepest point of the lake.
Swim 5 is lies at the other side and is only accessible by 4x4 or by foot.
All other swims have good car access and the car can be parked at the swim.
Facilities
There’s a small sanitary block with running water, WC and shower. Here, you can also recharge your batteries and mobile phones.
